Anyone who has attended the Writers Faire knows what a fun, energizing, and educational day it is. This year’s event is coming up on Sunday, August 25th at the UCLA campus, and if the word “free” is not enough to convince you, here are ten great reasons to join us at our cornerstone annual event.

1) Choose from 24 mini-classes and panel discussions with more than 60 Writers’ Program instructors in creative writing and screenwriting.

Budding novelist? We got you covered. Aspiring television writer? Worry not! We’ve got something for everyone.

2) Learn about and chat with Writers’ Program instructors.

Ever thought about enrolling in a class, but wish you could talk to the instructor first? The Faire is a great opportunity to see instructors in action, get a feel for their personality, and chat with them about writing.

3) Speak one-on-one with an advisor.

Our creative writing and screenwriting advisors are on hand all day to help you find the perfect fall course. Learn more about our classes, certificate programs, one-on-one consultations, mentorships, and other services.

4) Enroll in most fall courses at a 10% discount.

Need we say more?

5) Become a part of the Los Angeles writing community.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to meet and network with other writers, share ideas, and make lasting friendships.

6) Pick up a copy of Inside the Room or Cut to the Chase.

The first of their kind, these television and feature film writing books bring together dozens of professional screenwriters/Writers’ Program instructors in two easy-to-read volumes. The Faire is a rare opportunity to buy the books, chat with some of the featured authors, and have them sign your copies.

7) Learn more about graduate writing programs.

Representatives from UCR-Palm Desert, USC, and Antioch University join the Writers’ Program’s Paul Mandelbaum on a panel entitled Graduate Creative Writing Programs: An Inside Look. Hear about the pros and cons of obtaining your graduate degree in creative writing, what the experience is like, how to go about it, and what to do once you have it.

8) Visit with professional and community organizations, writing-allied businesses, and graduate programs.

These include the Writers Junction, PEN USA, WriteGirl, Organization of Black Screenwriters, Cal Arts, Chapman University, Goddard College, and many more!

9) Spin the prize wheel!

Enroll in a class, spin the wheel, win a prize—you may walk away with a hat, tote bag, or free one-day class.

10) Stroll the gorgeous UCLA campus.

In addition to the lovely Young Hall Courtyard where the event takes place, the campus boasts gorgeous and historic landmarks such as Royce Hall, Powell Library, and the north campus sculpture garden. Bring a picnic and make a day of it!
