Great news for former student Liska Jacobs who signed a two-book deal with MCD, a new imprint launched by FSG (Farrar, Straus and Giroux)! Catalina, the first of the two books, is due out in fall 2017 and follows a young woman who loses her job and travels with a group of close friends to Catalina Island where she’s forced to confront the truth about herself. Liska shares her experience taking creative writing classes through the Writers’ Program: “I was lucky enough to work with Lou Mathews twice. He showed me that the Los Angeles writing community is not only vibrant, but infinitely supportive. I also worked with Steve Sohmer whose advice I still reference. In all, it was a transcending experience.”

A huge congratulations to Liska! For a more in-depth description of Catalina, check out http://liskajacobs.com/.
