Former student Liska Jacobs’s debut novel, Catalina, was published in November 2017. The book follows Elsa Fisher, who, after being fired from MoMA, returns to Los Angeles and reconnects with a group of college friends. The novel has been featured in the LA Times, Daily News, Elle magazine, and others.

Of her experience in the Writers’ Program, Liska says, “After graduating UCLA with a concentration in creative writing, I was a bit lost. I knew I wanted to keep at it, but I wasn’t ready for an MFA program. Working with Steve Sohmer and Lou Mathews at UCLA Extension provided me with the support and workshop experience I needed. I’m deeply grateful to them both and to the Writers’ Program.”
