Instructor Statement:

Great writers are made, not born. That has always been my philosophy. Sure, it takes talent to write well, but it also takes hard work and dedication to the craft. You are here because you have the desire to write screenplays. I’m here because I’m committed to share what I know about the world of film and television. Screenwriting is a craft. I teach the fundamentals of dramatic writing, from conception to completion. A wonderful film always starts with a great script and I will teach you what I know, culling from my experiences sitting in writers’ rooms, working with directors, facing that blank page and meeting deadlines. Filmmaking is also a collaborative medium and working with other writers is an important aspect of that effort. I run my class much like a writers’ room where ideas are shared, suggestions offered and advice taken. If the environment is safe and the focus ever present, the creative experience can be transformative. Great writing is also a conversation—with yourself, with other writers and, most importantly, with the outside world. My classroom is where that conversation can take place.
