Screenwriter of the film Girls Just Want to Have Fun and the TV series Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place. She has worked as an executive script consultant for award-winning TV shows, served as a WGA awards judge, and is part of the WGA mentoring program for military veterans.
I have always loved the Joan Didion quote: “I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see and what it means. What I want and what I fear.” For me, writing has been an ongoing surprise party. As a teacher of writing, I help each aspiring writer bring their unique voice and vision to the page. Having credits in film, television, transmedia, and new media, documentary and fiction, I impart tools of these trades to assist writers in finding the best medium for the stories they want to tell and sell. I also use my training in teaching mindfulness to help writers overcome self-judgment, doubt, writer’s block, enhance their creative voice, and grow their writing into their own productive, successful surprise party. As the wonderful Margaret Atwood wrote: “If I waited for perfection, I would never write a word.”
