The world is full of great stories waiting to be told. I want my students to find those stories and tell them, and I try to give them the tools to do so. We start with baby steps—where to get ideas, how to find a market, how to sell an idea. Then we move on to the skills needed—researching the story, interviewing, getting good quotations. And finally, we learn how to put it all together. A writing teacher once told me, Nobody ever gets worse and worse; everyone only gets better and better. So I encourage students to continue to write, continue to edit, and continue to read good writing.
