Writers’ Program student Eric Wallace was recently promoted from writers assistant to writing staff on the television show Eureka, which airs on the Sci-Fi network. Eric has taken a variety of courses in our program, both in creative writing and screenwriting, including Beginning Writing for the One-Hour Drama and Workshop in Fiction Writing: Limited Enrollment. However, it was the spec that he developed in Tom Blomquist‘s Writing the One-Hour Spec Pilot that was instrumental in landing him an agent as well as being staffed. Eric adds: “I’ll even go further and say that it’s because of the two years I spent taking UCLA Extension classes that I was so well prepared for what to expect when I got into the real world. That preparation—I call it my big head start—was absolutely critical in my breaking through.” Be sure to watch for Eric’s name in the credits!
