Writers’ Program student Ligiah Villalobos‘ first feature film was accepted into the Sundance Film Festival. But the good news doesn’t stop there: the result of a bidding war between five studios ended in world wide distribution of her film Under the Same Moon by Fox Searchlight and The Weinstein Company.

Villalobos took her very first step toward success with a writing course taught by Writers’ Program instructor Steven Wolfson. “I took my first writing class—ever, from Steven, which changed my life.” Villalobos gained the experience she needed to land staff writer positions on “Ed,” and head writer on “Go, Diego! Go.”

Under the Same Moon will be out in theatres March 21, 2008, and she is grateful. “None of this could’ve happened without Steven or the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program.”
