Onliner Aline Taylor recently won a Commended Award in the Tom Howard Poetry Contest for her poem, “For Landon.”

Landon, one of her son’s best friends, was killed in a car accident at the age of 19. The poem, written in her son’s voice, deals with the grief of losing him.

What Aline learned in Carol Potter‘s poetry course enabled her to make several significant changes to the poem prior to entry in the contest and Aline “can’t wait” to enroll in another course as she now has “a much better handle on what I’m writing, how I’m arranging it and why.”

Congratulations Aline! We’ll see you on the boards….

If you have a success story, we want to hear about it! Write to writers@uclaextension.edu.
