Writers’ Program student Candace Ryan sold her first picture book to Walker Books for Young Readers. “Animal House” is the story of a boy whose teacher tells him he belongs in a zoo. One visit to Jeremy’s “gorvilla” brings a whole new meaning to the words “living room” for his teacher, Mrs. Nuddles.

We couldn’t be happier for Candace and she is grateful for her experiences with the Writers’ Program. “My writing success has been in no small way shaped by the amazing instructors at UCLA Extension Writers’ Program. April Halprin Wayland, Alexis O’Neill and Lisze Bechtold, all of whom are published children’s book authors, gave me the foundation I needed to launch a career in this very competitive field.”
