Fiction writing instructor Victoria Patterson has just published her first collection of short stories, Drift. Set in Newport Beach, Drift’s interlinked tales center around Rosie, a troubled teenager. A brain damaged skateboarder, a lesbian psychologist, a transvestite, a trophy wife; all of these characters inhabit Victoria’s debut collection, which has received rave reviews, including a starred review in Publisher’s Weekly:

“The prose is so accomplished, so effortlessly nuanced and suggestive, that more than once I had to check Patterson’s bio to make sure this was her first book. (It is.)” -San Francisco Chronicle

“Patterson’s unflinching account of the seedy side of a real-life Xanadu is frightening, immersive and wonderfully realized.” –Publisher’s Weekly

“Drift is one of the truest depictions of Southern California I’ve read yet. Patterson depicts characters simultaneously at odds with, and in sync with, the cultural void around them. The work is subtle, honest, and a great pleasure to read.” -Danzy Senna, author of Caucasia

Congratulations Victoria, we can’t wait to read it!
