The Writers’ Program annual Publication Party is nigh! Join us on Wednesday, June 9 from 7:00 – 9pm at the Skirball Cultural Center to hear 18 Writers’ Program instructors read from their selections published within the last year. It’s a celebration of their accomplishments, and also a great chance for the Los Angeles literary community to come together for a little inspiration.
Here is a rundown of the instructors (in order of appearance) and the works from which they will read:
Jennie Nash, The Threadbare Heart
Harry Youtt, “Carter”
Rachel Kann, “Calypso” and “The Bent: The Awakening”
Nancy Spiller, “Southern California: A Land for all Seasons”
Ronald Alexander, Romance/Romanze
Gayle Brandeis, My Life with the Lincolns
Daniel M. Jaffe, “The Zen of Butchery”
Laurel Ann Bogen, “A Canticle for Bogen,” “Things to Trip over in the Dark,” and “Heliotrope”
Marisa Matarazzo, Drenched: Stories of Love and Other Deliriums
Diana Raab, “Healing With Words: A Writer’s Cancer Story”
Stefan Kiesbye, “Starter Life”
Rick Bursky, “Death Obscura”
Colette Sartor, “Beach Haven”
Stephanie Waxman, Divided Loyalties
Barbara Abercrombie, “Turning Soixante-dix”
Cecilia Manguerra Brainard, “Vigan”
Suzanne Lummis, “Directive to Los Angeles,” and “Another Poem After Cesar Vallejo”
Lou Mathews, “Hollywoodski”
The reading will be followed by a reception, featuring refreshments, instructor’s books for sale courtesy of Book Soup, and plenty of opportunity to “schmooze” with fellow writers, Writers’ Program staff and instructors. The best part? This event is totally FREE. Even the parking is free. The keyword here is: free!
Doors open at 7pm and readings begin at 7:30pm, with the reception immediately following. What are you waiting for? RSVP for you and your guests by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Questions? Send us an email or call us at (310) 825-9415.
