Student Mike Padilla has been all over the blogosphere lately for the recent publication of his novel, The Girls from the Revolutionary Cantina, about three best friends living in the San Fernando Valley. The novel, published by St. Martin’s Griffin, has been featured in the Latina Book Club, Examiner.com, UCLA Today, The Washington Times and The Huffington Post. Booklist calls The Girls “a rollicking good ride with plenty of flair and heart.”

In his UCLA Today interview, Mike credits the Writers’ Program with whipping him into shape: “I realized I was never going to finish if I didn’t dedicate myself to the writing and get some help. So I thought, ‘let me just try taking a class at UCLA Extension.’ I ended up in workshops in the Writers’ Program for about two years. It turned out to be the smartest thing I could have done, because it got me really motivated.”
