Writers’ Program student Kerry Fisher’s current work in progress, The Divorce Domino, won first prize for the beginning of a novel at the Writers’ Workshop York Festival of Writing this year.

Kerry started writing “Domino” while taking Novel Writing II and III with online instructor Jessica Barksdale Inclan. It’s the story of how one woman’s divorce causes her best friend to question her own staid marriage and to try to recapture her youth by seeking out a man from her past that “got away.”

Kerry says, “I have taken eight Writers’ Program online creative writing courses and owe any improvement to Jessica Barksdale Inclan, Robert Eversz and Lynn Hightower. The courses keep me motivated when I feel like I’m wading through treacle and have taught me to ‘hear’ feedback and to develop a sense of confidence. I keep Lynn Hightower’s advice in the forefront of my mind: ‘This is fiction; we can skip the boring bits!”

Congratulations on your success, Kerry!
