Seasoned creative writing instructor Daniel M. Jaffe’s book, Jewish Gentle and Other Stories of Gay-Jewish Living, is hot off the presses! The collection features 24 stories that explore various aspects of gay-Jewish life including relationships, parenting, faith, dealing with old age, and the adult joys and heartbreaks of dating.

The book’s introduction by Andrew Ramer says, “We know the territory that Jaffe writes in—lush, stark, unexpected, a Jordan flowing through it with Real on one bank and Dream on the other. Jaffe is not afraid to write about violence, or blasphemy, sometimes comically and sometimes horrifically… a lush Jewish gamelan for queer ears, queer heart, queer minds. And otherwise.”

Dan shares this advice to students:

“Pursue story ideas as they come, even if they don’t at first seem related. Put the stories aside and read them together later on—you might be surprised at thematic, characterization, or imagery continuities that jump out at you. As I frequently tell my students: our unconscious is our writing partner!”

Congratulations on your latest publication, Dan!
