Online student Darlene West’s essay, “Cherry Season,” was published online in Leite’s Culinaria and was also a recent finalist for an International Association of Culinary Professionals food writing award. The piece, which takes place partly in a cherry tree, is about baking a clafouti. Darlene initially worked on the essay as an assignment in Gordon Grice’s Intermediate Creative Nonfiction course online.
She shares, “I signed up for a class in the Writers’ Program to learn fiction techniques and work on a handful of ideas for personal essays. My project really gained momentum in the workshop, which I thought offered an ideal mix of inspiration and practical tips. And of course, working with Gordon was a treat.”
