Tina Yang recently published in It’s Animal But Merciful, an anthology released by New York indie press Great Weather for MEDIA. “Taking Writers’ Program courses was a life-altering experience. Before, I was pretty lost about what I wanted to do in my life, with my story. The Writers’ Program provided me with a community of individuals who wanted to pursue storytelling as much as I did. Once I started taking poetry with Suzanne Lummis, everything fell into place. I was pushed beyond what I thought I could do by her passion for writing and high criteria for excellence in poetry. The autobiographical prose poem, “Why My Mother, the Bald Headed Nun, Rejected Me,” was my breakthrough in her class. Finding that intensity and strong voice could only have happened in these wonderful classes. The rich poetry community of Los Angeles, many members of whom I met at the Writers’ Program, has welcomed me with open arms. I feel like I have a place in this large city and industry that can seem so cold.”

Congratulations, Tina!
