Writers’ Program student Lauri Taylor has published her first memoir, The Accidental Truth: What My Mother’s Murder Investigation Taught Me About Life (SelectBooks), due out in May. Lauri began her writing journey with longtime Writers’ Program teaching duo Judith Prager and Harry Youtt, and turned her story into memoir in Jennie Nashs class. “I came to the Writers’ Program with a loosely conceived story, no creative writing experience and a large amount of fear. Judith and Harry put this new writer at ease by identifying the strengths in my writing, offering advice, encouragement and their belief in the merit of my story. Jennie’s memoir class fully prepared me to write and sell The Accidental Truth; I learned how to craft my story and how to be a writer, and about all aspects of the publishing world. Every word on the pages of my first book is there because Jennie believed in me and my story.”

Congratulations, Lauri! We can’t wait to get our hands on a copy!
