Congratulations are in order for longtime Writers’ Program instructor and LA poetry icon Suzanne Lummis, who has been awarded Beyond Baroque’s George Drury Smith Award which “honors influential and accomplished poets who are strongly associated with Los Angeles whose reputations extend well beyond this region and have brought new attention to the poetry of Los Angeles.” The award, named for Beyond Baroque’s founder, has previously been awarded to David St. John, Wanda Coleman, former L.A. poet laureate Eloise Klein Healy, and William Mohr.
