I don’t want to alarm you but FALL QUARTER STARTS THIS WEEK! Can you believe it?! I cannot. It seems like just yesterday I was planning a fabulous summer trip and then enjoying that fabulous summer trip followed by returning to work and recounting stories of my fabulous summer trip to my coworkers. Now here we are in the busy-ness of September and summer is but a distant memory in spite of L.A.’s scorching hot and lingering weather.

Now that I have your attention and probably alarmed you even though I said, “I don’t want to alarm you,” here’s some good news—IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO ENROLL IN A FALL COURSE AND, YES, YOU READ THAT CORRECTLY! While Fall quarter officially starts this week, and many courses begin very soon, you haven’t missed your chance to take a class that meets your writing goals before the end of the year! We know how busy life gets in September and, therefore, we have a robust assortment of screenwriting and creative writing courses that won’t start until mid-October or later. We’re good like that! Check out the late starting fall course offerings below!

Creative Writing Onsite Offerings:
Starting out in your writing endeavor but have no idea where to start? You’re not alone! Many new students come to us equipped with the motivation to write but not sure what type of writing to pursue, which is why The Essential Beginnings of Fiction Writing: An Introductory Workshop taught by Michael Buckley is a great launch pad. Class begins October 19th and runs for six weeks. Additionally, Finding Your Voice, taught by new instructor Ryan McIlvain is another great choice for new writers. Class begins October 20th and runs for six weeks.

Have a novel you’ve been mulling over and anxious to get it all out quickly? Want to boast to family members over December holidays that you just completed a novel? Then Write a Novel in a Month as Part of National Novel Writing Month is the class for you! Each year, Ian Randall Wilson guides students through the process of writing a novel throughout the month of November. Class begins October 18th and runs for 8 weeks.

Creative Writing Online Offerings:
For those looking to turn their personal and true experiences into compelling stories, we have The Essential Beginnings in Nonfiction Writing with Marianne Villanueva, which runs November 4th through December 16th.

Beginning October 14th is Power Up Your Writing: Deeper Characters, Deeper Truths (Online) with Rochelle Shapiro. It’s for beginning and experienced writers alike who want to hone in on creating characters that last long after a story has ended. Along the same lines and starting October 28th, Daniel M. Jaffe will be offering his course Creating Memorable Characters and a perfect selection for any writer looking to build vivid and complex characters.

If you’re looking to write for kiddos then Introduction to Picture Books (Online) taught by veteran children’s book author Terry Pierce is a must. It begins October 14th and runs for 8 weeks.

Screenwriting Offerings:
Writer and producer Ed Scharlach is back with his one day course Showrunners and Show Writers geared for those who want to get the inside scoop from current TV writers and producers on their paths to success, as well as craft commercially viable scripts.

Lastly, we have a new course offering called Collaborating Your Way To Success taught by writing partners David Diamond and David Weissman, which begins October 27th. It’s for writers who have at least one completed screenplay.
