Instructor and former student Natashia Deón is an NAACP Image Award Nominee and author of the critically-acclaimed novel, Grace. She has sold her second novel, The Perishing to Counterpoint Press. The Perishing is about a young black woman who suddenly finds herself in 1930s Los Angeles and comes to believe she may be immortal, only to find a love, and a city, worth dying for.
Of her time teaching in the Writers’ Program, Natashia says what she enjoys is, “Discovery. What I love about working with students is being a catalyst to their discovery of their voice and their stories. It’s an honor to be part of their journey. And for them to be part of mine. It inspires me.”
