Longtime instructor Charles Wyatt recently won the inaugural Hawk Mountain Award for a Short Story Collection. Of this honor, he says, “I’m excited to learn Hidden River Arts will be publishing my third short fiction collection, Houses.  Many of these stories visit characters from Listening to Mozart and Swan of Tuonela. If there’s a direction in Houses, I’ve let go of the reins.  What’s less real has become more real, at least to my ear.”

Of his time teaching for the Writers’ Program, Charles says, “I’ve been teaching classes at UCLA Extension for the past 18 years – it’s hard to believe.  It’s a rare class these days that’s not international. I’ll have to say I love these classes – many writers have gone on to the top tier of MFA Programs.  The best part of the teaching?  It’s watching the stories grow – think gardening.”

Congratulations, Charles! If you have a success story, we want to hear about it! Click here.
