Registration for the Fall 2021 term is now open. As we have all learned in the past several quarters, life can shift on us in an instant and creating consistency in our lives can be a difficult task. While there are many changes happening in the world, and at UCLA Extension, we’re here to help you navigate these changes as best we can starting with the below updates, in hopes this information can help you make informed choices about how to finish 2021 with your writing goals achieved!
New UCLA Extension Site Updates
The UCLA Extension site implemented a few changes that should make navigating course availability and information easier. All available course sections for a term are now listed in a single column below that quarter, regardless of class format. So whether you prefer Online, Remote Instruction, or (as we begin adding them back based on safety and space availability) In-Person classes, they’ll all be listed together, with a handy information icon to explain the format. This at-a-glance approach will also show course cost, start date, and instructor(s) in a more readable manner.
Additionally, when looking at the “see all courses” page for any field of study, you can see at a glance what day current offerings begin; and if a course isn’t currently being offered, it will show as TBA.
You can also access this quarter’s course listing for the Writers’ Program on the main page of our subsite and here.
New Classes & Instructors
As always, we anticipate Fall being our busiest, most popular quarter. There are a slew of new instructors and course offerings for this term, and we’ll be highlighting many of those on our blog in the weeks to come, so keep checking back!
For the Fall 2021 term, all Writers’ Program courses remain online. There are a handful of courses at UCLA Extension currently scheduled to be offered in person, however UCLA and UCLA Extension will continue monitoring local, state, and federal guidelines and may pivot back to online formats for in-person classes if such measures become necessary to protect the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff. Please continue to check the UCLA Extension updates page for information on this continually evolving situation.
Season four of our podcast, The Write Process, launches this Friday (7/30). With another exciting lineup of alumni and instructors, find out about the craft and journey of writing a single project from concept through completion on our site, or wherever you get your podcasts.
We’re also anticipating the launch of Southland Alibi, our online literary magazine. Southland Alibi is currently accepting submissions in fiction, nonfiction, poetry and art on a rolling basis. Learn more here: https://writersprogram.submittable.com/submit
Winter 2022 planning is underway, and we’re excited to already be prepping for the 2022 Writers Studio at Home, once again offered in a fully virtual format. Registration for the Writers Studio is scheduled to open in October with more information coming soon.
We’re coming up on the one-year anniversary of the launch of WP NOW. As we move into year two, we’ll continue to evolve this membership program to improve community building, professional development events, networking, professional membership affiliations, and of course exclusive discounts on Writers’ Program classes.
During this time of change and growth, the Writers’ Program staff is undergoing some shifts and transitions, too. As always we will do our best to minimize impact to our services and response times, but we appreciate your patience with these ongoing changes. You can always email us, any time, at email@example.com.
We hope to “see” you in class or at an event or seminar this Fall!
