Former student Kathleen Guthrie Woods wrote her memoir-with-a-message to help herself make peace with being childless, and she published it in 2021 hoping it would help other women. So, what a thrill when this UCLA alumna (BA, English) learned in March 2023 that Katie Couric Media included her among luminaries Isabel Wilkerson, Maya Angelou, Henry David Thoreau, and the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu in “37 Life-Changing Books You Won’t Be Able to Put Down.”
“It started with Barbara Abercrombie‘s Personal Essay class through UCLA Extension Writers’ Program,” Kathleen says. “And since The Mother of All Dilemmas came out, I’ve been able to encourage other writers by appearing as a guest speaker for Roberta Wax‘s memoir and nonfiction classes. My message to students today is ‘Tell your story and share it! You never know who it will touch.'”
Congratulations, Kathleen! If you have a success story, we want to hear about it! Click here.
