Instructor Statement:

As a currently working film and television writer, I keep my students informed on the most recent trends in the industry. Things have been changing rapidly as far as what producers and agents/managers are looking for in spec scripts. The first step is always making your script the best it can be. That’s what I strive to do with my students. Workshopping and getting comments to point out what is working well in the story you’re telling – but also, what problems still need to be addressed, and potential solutions. It’s important to make your script great before sending it out, because you only have one chance to make a first impression. That means ensuring your three Cs (concept, character, conflict) are strong, unique, and compelling. That you have solid structure and pacing. That your tone is clear, and you have a good opening scene to grab a reader’s attention and make them want to keep turning pages. I like to help my students craft their stories, and ultimately realize their vision. And for me, there’s nothing better than hearing about one of my students having a big success!
