Writers’ Program student Jennifer J. Chow made it to the second round of the 2013 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award for her debut novel, The 228 Legacy, which was then picked up by Martin Sisters Publishing.
Inspired by real events, The 228 Legacy explores the effects of a decades-long cultural secret on a Taiwanese-American family. The novel weaves together multigenerational viewpoints, showing how heritage and history influence individual behavior and family bonds.
“The Writers’ Program provided me with the tools for honing my craft and creating a polished manuscript. The professors were a perfect combination of challenging and supportive. My peers gave me wonderful feedback, and in fact my current critique group is comprised of alumni of the program.”
