Writers’ Program student Sandy Smith was recently accepted into several MFA programs. She will be starting the MFA in Creative Writing program at University of California, Riverside/Palm Desert this fall, as a Barbara Seranella Award recipient.

Sandy says of her time in the Writers’ Program, “Since completing Intro to Short Fiction with Mary Jones and then Intermediate Short Fiction with Charles Wyatt in 2016, I’ve published three short stories in literary journals. Charles Wyatt, a fantastically supportive mentor, was instrumental in my decision to apply for graduate school. Thanks to his encouragement and support, I applied to and was accepted at several MFA programs. The positive, constructive climate of the classes I took at UCLA Extension really helped me to clarify my goals and solidify my commitment to writing. I highly recommend the program!”
