Offered by the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program, the Writers Studio brings together a community of writing students to workshop with some of Southern California’s most accomplished writers and teachers. From among the 10 offered, participants choose one workshop in which they work closely with a professional writer in classes limited to no more than 15 people.
Here’s what former students have to say about their 4-day Writers Studio experience.
“The workshop forced me to dig deep into my archive of memories and gather up the courage to put my story on the table and have it be dissected by my amazing classmates and teacher. I learned that a great story requires being authentic and brave.” – Mia Nazareno (Irvine, CA)
“I recommend the Writers Studio because it gives you both a very realistic and fascinating, exhilarating idea of what writing actually is: work, work, work! And work that one does because they love it.” – Elisabeth Sancey (Paris, France)
“I recommend the Writers Studio because it is a unique and powerful experience that can help you on your journey toward telling your story. You’ll learn craft and begin to gain insight into the universality of themes and how to use language. Not to mention a great place to meet people.” – Mimi Nichter (Tucson, AZ)
“There are so many valuable lessons. All of it: structure, character development, insight into the business! It was non-stop value.” – Stephanie Krikorian (East Hampton, NY)
“The Writers Studio jump-started me back to writing. For a year I didn’t write. I was burned out from my previous job. This was a healing experience.” – Sandra Phillips (San Diego, CA)
“The Writers Studio helped to clarify the chaos; bring clear structure to my mess of ideas that ultimate helped me understand why I am writing this story, and what my voice is.” – Carole Ryder (Poole, UK)
