Rochelle Shapiro, who teaches Writing the Personal Essay and Intermediate Personal Essay online, is featured in Feed Me: Writers Dish about Food, Eating, Weight, and Body Image, published by Ballantine Books earlier this year. The anthology, edited by Harriet Brown, also includes work by Writers’ Program instructor and novelist Caroline Leavitt.

Betsy Lerner, author of Food and Loathing, has this to say about “Feed Me”: “For every woman who has ever (a) hated her body, (b) stepped on a scale more than once a day, (c) cried in a dressing room, or (d) all of the above; a funny and heartbreaking collection of essays about the tyranny of thinness. Though you could buy roughly four Entenmann’s cakes for the cover price, this book could actually fill you up.”

In addition to “Feed Me,” Rochelle has published poetry in many journals over the past year, including The Los Angeles Review, and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize for her poem Second Story Porch.

Congratulations Rochelle. You’re an inspiration to your students!
