Creative Writing student Marcie Geffner won, as part of a team, the Best in Business Award from the Society of American Business Writers and Editors. The award recognizes excellence in business and financial journalism. Marcie shares this about her UCLA Extension Writers’ Program experience:
“The award was for business journalism, not fiction, but I would very much like to credit my novel writing instructor Linda Palmer for her help in strengthening my writing skills. Her instruction and encouragement made my writing much stronger, contributing to my receiving this professional recognition after many years as a real estate and business reporter. I think it shows that learning the craft of fiction can be a real boost to a journalist’s career.”
She adds this advice:
“Don’t overlook opportunities to apply what you learn in the Writers’ Program to other types of writing. Whatever you learn can help you in unexpected ways.”
We completely agree, Marcie. Congratulations!
