Student Cheryl Manning has won the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators Mentorship Contest, which provides a six-month mentorship with YA author Catherine Linka. During the mentorship Cheryl will work on her novel The Last Crane, about Kenji, a twelve-year-old living in Hiroshima in 1945.

Cheryl workshopped The Last Crane in Mark Sarvas’ class, who she says “has been invaluable in my creative journey. Mark’s thorough and constructive critiques coupled with his revelatory lectures on the craft of writing have helped me evolve my first novel.”

Congratulations, Cheryl!
