Welcome new Writers’ Program instructor Linda Camacho! Linda is teaching a new course: Contracts, Rights, and Signing Authors, online (Reg# 372898) this Spring, which is part of our new Literary Representation Certificate. She sat down with us to offer some insight into creative life and her upcoming course.
What’s your favorite book and/or movie?
It’s hard to pick just one, but one of my favorites is Pan’s Labyrinth.
What’s your favorite quote about writing?
Nora Roberts once said, “I can fix a bad page. I can’t fix a blank page.”
What excites you most about teaching for the Writers’ Program?
The thing that excites me is introducing a new crop of people to the world of publishing. Agenting is often viewed as this mysterious role in the industry, but I’m here to demystify it.
What do you hope your students get from your course?
I hope I can make my students see that agenting is the perfect combination of creativity and business. Agents are readers first and foremost, so we get to work with creatives on exciting projects that we can help put out in the world. We not only get to work on the editorial aspects of a project, but assist writers and illustrators create a longstanding career in the end, which is pretty amazing.
Thank you to Linda for taking time to share with us. Look for more instructor interviews coming soon!
