Longtime Writers’ Program student and TV writer Elle Johnson is about to release her first memoir. She was a finalist in the inaugural year of the Allegra Johnson Prize. After five years of dedicated study in Erika Schickel’s transformative beginning, intermediate, and advanced memoir writing classes her debut memoir, The Officer’s Daughter, is being published by HarperCollins this February.
Of her experience in the Writers’ Program, Elle says, “I have always found great instruction and inspiration from the courses at UCLA Extension. Whenever I am on hiatus from a TV series I always try to take a class in another field. My writing has benefited tremendously from the insightful instruction whether it was playwriting with Steven Wolfson or crafting essays with Samantha Dunn. I’m proud to consider myself a part of the UCLA writing community.”
