Former student Catherine Klatzker is about to release her debut memoir, You Will Never Be Normal from Stillhouse Press in May, 2021. While it was still a book-in-progress, You Will Never Be Normal was longlisted for the 2017 Santa Fe Writers Project Literary Awards Program, and an excerpt, “Al Chet,” was awarded Tiferet Journal’s 2014 Nonfiction prize.

Of her experience in the Writers’ Program, Catherine says, “The UCLA Extension Creative Nonfiction program was phenomenal for me when I worked full time in Pediatric ICU and wrote on my days off. My writing benefited from all my Extension classes at UCLA over the years, particularly from Suzanne Lummis in Poetry and Sandra Kobrin in Creative Nonfiction. Sandra’s encouragement sharpened my skills as well as my resolve, kept me honest, made me dive deeper, and let me believe in the value of my story.”

Congratulations, Catherine! If you have a success story, we want to hear about it! Click here.
