Former student Joseph Dabby recently published his memoir. He says of the experience, “My book No Looking Back was published recently. It’s a memoir about my growing up as a Jew in Iraq, my childhood, adolescence, imprisonment, marriage to my sweetheart, and our escape. It is a glimpse into life under religious persecution and a repressive regime. It is also a history of Iraq 1919-1971 and the cleansing of Iraqi Jewery, one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world.”

Of his time in the Writers’ Program Joseph says, “I took two memoir writing courses at UCLA Extension with Shawna Kenney. Shawna taught me how to use dialogue to give the reader the sight and smell of a scene. I learnt in these courses how to structure my writing for easy reading. Shawna gave me the confidence to sit down and write my book, mainly for my children and grandchildren. It is incredible to see my book selling at Amazon!”
